In November 2015, we announced our intention to explore bidding for a UK Worldcon in 2024, as a result of the huge amount of enthusiasm generated by Loncon 3 in 2014, and the ongoing growth and excitement surrounding conventions around the country. The group was begun by Emma England, Vanessa May, Esther MacCallum-Stewart and James Bacon, and launched at Novacon in Nottingham, UK, in 2015.
Our team is a dedicated band of fans both international and local, old and new. We have the support of five previous Worldcon Chairs and two Bid Chairs, and our group also contains newcomers who draw their own experiences from the many events that take place around the UK. All of us want to see Worldcon return to the UK. Our community is a thriving one, and we welcome everyone to join us, share their ideas and celebrate the UK’s ongoing love of science fiction, fantasy and horror.
At present we are assessing the many different venues available to us, and have been holding open discussion sessions at recent UK conventions, including Conrunner (February 2017) and Eastercon 2017 (April 2017).
